Intergenerational family violence is a central theme to this interesting book. Because the book is told empathetically from Jimmy’s perspective his behaviour never seems odd and it’s really only when other people tell him to settle down that we are reminded that it’s atypical behaviour. Jimmy’s cells spin faster and faster when he gets excited and he runs and runs and yells, even in the classroom. He is most similar to Christopher Boone in The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time but without the mathematical prowess. The protagonist, Jimmy Flick, is charming and I was never able to predict what would next happen to Jimmy. I luxuriated in blocks of time in the hammock or sofa over two days and as temperatures climbed to 39C it was a great choice of activity. When I was offered a copy of our January book for book group, The Eye of the Sheep by Sofie Laguna, I thought I should read it quickly and pass it on. ![]() Book Reflections – The Eye of the Sheep by Sofie Laguna ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The 10-episode first season of Wayward Pines sped through the events of all three of Crouch's novels, which means Season 2 of the show will be entirely original. Thanks to other TV adaptations like Game Of Thrones, the one-book-per-season rule is an easy assumption to make - but in this case, it couldn't be further from the truth. So Season 1 of Wayward Pines obviously covered the first book in Crouch's series, and there's two more books' worth of source material left, right? Wrong. The freshman season of the "event series" was adapted from a trilogy of books published by Blake Crouch between 20 titled Pines, Wayward, and The Last Town, respectively. But is Wayward Pines Season 2 based on a book, like the first? Well regardless of the network's original intentions, the eerie series was a big enough ratings success that Wayward Pines was renewed for a second season, which will be premiering this Wednesday night. But that ambiguous qualifier - "event series" - made it unclear whether the show was a finite miniseries, or whether it would return for a second season. ![]() Last summer, FOX took us to a creepy town with a ton of secrets in its "event series" Wayward Pines, produced and directed by M. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() To Snare a Prince by Sky Sommers: I liked the story until the dragon/prince turned up.īlood of the Unicorn by NDT Casale: this was a nice sentiment, wanted more thoughĭimension of the Sasquatch by Donna White: YES for dimension-walking The Lucky Tortoise by Ben Lang: Loved it!įeather Green by Jennifer Kropf: a bit lack-luster at the end, but overall good.Īpple and the Dead Forest by Xander Cross: wanted this to be a longer story! ![]() Gems of Fae and Foolery by Alice Ivinya: adventure was fun, ending felt rushed Willow Daughter was definitely my favorite short story beautifully written and I was immediately sucked in.Īfter seeing a few reviews rating each story separately, I thought that was a good idea too! So here’s my quick breakdown of each story: I was entertained and I loved the mission behind this collection as well to help preserve the rainforests. I loved the story of the boy and his tortoise and the fairy-deal gone wrong. A few were precursors to novels that the authors are working on or spinoffs of secondary characters in their novels. For the most part, the stories were standalones. We had some that featured fae, dragons, fairytale retellings, and each one set us on a grand adventure. Each fantasy story takes place in or near a fantastical forest-and I loved the diversity of the stories.
